Old Town Split & Diocletian’s Palace

The town squares of the old town area are rather striking when lit up red. A particularly delightful spot is standing next to the silver gate, looking towards the Saint Domnius Bell Tower.
Trg Republike

Trg Republike is a beautiful place to hang out at any time of day, thanks to its Neo-Renaissance architecture. However, the views towards the Adriatic Sea at sunset are rather special. It’s a great place to dine out or enjoy a drink during the golden hour.
Pillars of Perpetual Love in Split, Croatia

The Pillars of Perpetual Love is a monument right next to the fishing dock on the seafront. They make for a great photo opportunity during the late sunlight.
Fishing Dock

The boats at the fishing dock are great to photograph in the late sun, and it really enhances them.

There are some handy benches to sit on to watch the spectacle at the fishing quay. There is also a handy shop where you can buy a drink to watch the sun set.
Crkva i samostan sv. Frane

At the end of Riva is Crkva i samostan sv. Frane, a church enhanced by the late sun. There is a small park to sit out in front, with some very nice flower beds.
Concrete Beach

Concrete Beach is a lovely place to swim in the sea and also a great viewpoint for the setting sun. They have steps into the water, which is, thus, great for swimming.

It’s also a popular place for dog walking along this part of the Split coastline. The nearby pet-friendly bars are pretty handy, too, and great for watching the day end.

The cliffs and coastline behind you at the concrete beach get all lit up and have a golden glow here. Sometimes the best light shows are looking away from the sun.
Split Riva

The promenade at Riva is lovely to see from afar during the golden hour, as the sun really lights it up.

The bars or benches along the Riva promenade are an excellent vantage point for watching sunsets in Split, too. This is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine or beer while watching the sun set.
Bačvice Bay & Beach

Bačvice Bay has a lovely sandy beach, making it ideal for getting into the sea as the sun goes down. The seawall is also pretty special, with steps leading into the water.

We enjoyed taking late dog walks here and having a cold drink on the beach or at one of the nearby jetties.
Firule Beach

Firule Beach is a lovely place to hang out and watch the sky’s colours change. There are also some pleasant bars at the beach where you can sit outside and enjoy the daylight fading.
Lučica Jadran

The Lučica Jadran area is pleasant, too, and it is a great walk. The boats and bay make a good backdrop for watching the sun go down over the nearby peninsula. There is also a handy dog-friendly restaurant nearby.

During summer, there are many options for boat trips to watch the sunset. These depart from Split port and are a unique experience.
My Favourite Sunrise Spots

I love an early morning walk, and in the city there are many places to enjoy the early sun. I found getting on the nearby hill and the southern coast of the city to be the best.
Teraca Vidilica

On Marjan Hill, overlooking the old town and coast, is Teraca Vidilica, a restaurant with a panoramic viewpoint. This is a great spot to watch the early sun. On my visits, I’ve met other people here for the moment, as it’s that good.
Marjan Hill Stairs (Marjanske skale)

I really enjoyed descending the Marjan Hill Stairs after catching the sun at the viewpoint. It had many good views, and the early light was a treat to see here. The stairs descend towards the main city centre.
Riva

I found Split Riva is also a good spot for the early sun and is great for an early-morning walk. There are also quite a few benches for enjoying the view.
Matejuška

Matejuška is a small fishing dock at the end of the Riva and a top spot for sunrises, as it combines well with the small boats moored up here.

Great collection of sunsets, would love to visit one day!
