Dog-Friendly Bars, Restaurants & Accommodation in Cluj-Napoca
Cluj-Napoca is a pretty dog-friendly city in Romania. This includes many of the city’s eateries being pet-friendly. The old town area makes for a great historical dog walk too. I found that Cluj-Napoca had many dog-friendly bars and restaurants and had no problems with any of those we visited. Also, many bars have outside seating, which is always welcoming for dogs.

Finding a pet-friendly place to stay has been pretty straightforward on both Booking.com & Airbnb. As a bonus, there are no stray dogs in Cluj-Napoca, unlike other Romanian cities, which can be stressful when walking the dog.
Dog Friendly Bars & Restaurants in Cluj-Napoca

Some of my favourite pet-friendly bars and restaurants in the city. Many of the bars are dog-friendly; thus, Henry had a few good nights out with us.
The Old School Coffee House

Near the canal is the Old School Coffee House, a lovely pet-friendly bar. They are a handy place to pop in for a coffee, soft drink or a beer. The Old School Coffee House has their own dog, and we’ve met plenty of other canine guests there too. Be warned they have cats too, in case yours is not so fond of them. Their beer selection is good, which includes local craft beer and Ursus Retro. The Old School Coffee House has both inside and outdoor seating, and both areas seem to have a good vibe.
Meron a Pet-Friendly Coffee Shop

In the centre of Cluj-Napoca, near the Carrefour supermarket, is Meron, a lovely coffee shop. They are very dog-friendly, and the servers even brought a bowl of their finest dog water to the table. Pets may sit inside or outside here, which is great. They have a comprehensive coffee menu and also serve craft beer. I enjoyed their wheat beer and found Meron to be a pleasant place to visit.
The Carousel in Central Park

Carousel is a lovely bar-restaurant, especially for an afternoon or evening sitting out on the island in the Central Park lake. They serve great food and a great selection of wine, beer or cocktails. Carrousel serves some very delicious contemporary food and cocktails. Their chicken was very flavourful and well presented, making for a thoroughly enjoyable meal in stunning surroundings. The outside seating area is a great place to take a dog after a pleasant walk in the park.
Shadow Cafe Bar

In the nicely lit streets of Old Town is Shadow Cafe-Bar, a great place for a beer with the dog. Shadow Cafe Bar is a very informal place with both inside and outside seating. The interior decor is rather nice with some interesting art on the walls. The beer served is either continental or local, including options for different Ursus varieties. We found the Shadow Bar to be dog friendly, and they welcomed Henry.
Rhedey Cafe Bar
In the main city square of Cluj-Napoca is Rhedey Cafe, a pleasant place with outside seating. This venue has magnificent views of the statues outside the Roman Catholic Cathedral.

Beer at Rhedey Cafe is great, including Romanian beers and some nice Belgian bottles. Their food menu is also rather nice with a wonderful selection of dishes. Their beef goulash is very good with massive chunks of tender meat. The Rhedey Cafe’s covered outside seating is a lovely place to sit out with a dog.
Form Cafe

If you like cool cafes that also do food, then Form Cafe is great. They are a hive of activity, with various seating options, including sofas and raised tables. The inside is pretty cool and very modern in design. They have many options for coffee and beer, as well as a modern food menu. Their food menu includes sandwiches, burgers and a variety of other dishes. They are also dog-friendly and have a special menu for dogs.
Rochelle Restaurant & Pub

Alongside the river is the delightful Rochelle Restaurant & Pub. The Rochelle Restaurant & Pub has a lovely inside seating area and a covered terrace overlooking the water. We enjoyed beers and a meal out here with Henry and can confirm that the terrace is definitely dog-friendly. The weather was too pleasant to try inside this visit. Overall, Rochelle was a great place for a meal out.

Zen Hostel Bar

Near the Orthodox cathedral is Zen Hostel, which has a nice and good-value bar. Zen Hostel’s bar allows pets for beers, and speaking to the staff, they also have pet-friendly rooms. They nicely decorated the bar with some interesting street art. Overall, Zen Hostel is a nice place for a quiet drink and can get sociable in the evenings.
Joben Experience Bar

Another lovely dog-friendly bar/restaurant is Joben Experience Bar. It’s quite a cool bar with unique decor. They have a good range of drinks and serve tasty food. I’ve seen a few dogs out with their owners here; however, Henry is yet to visit.
Urania Cafe

Between the old town centre and the train station is Urania. Urania is a dog-friendly cafe with a big dogs welcome sign out the front. They are a good place for a daytime drink or a light breakfast bite. They also host events, including dance classes, which I often saw when passing by.
Dog Friendly Accommodation in Cluj-Napoca
There are many options for pet-friendly accommodation in Cluj-Napoca, including hostels, hotels and apartments. We’ve stayed mostly in self-catering apartments booked through both Booking.com and Airbnb. Both booking sites have a pets-allowed feature.
The Central Apartment

For a conveniently located place to stay in central Cluj, try The Central Apartament. The Central Apartament is between the city centre and the railway station. This is a multilevel apartment with the bedroom upstairs and a living area with a kitchen downstairs. They were dog-friendly, and the local area was very handy for walkies.

The accommodation was comfortable and was a great base for 10 nights. Checking in was painless as we arrived late. The owner gave us simple instructions to get in. As a bonus, the accommodation had a washing machine and a warm bathroom, which was great for drying. Overall, Central Apartment was a lovely place to stay, and we would return.
Csikos Apartment

Another nice place to stay that is dog-friendly is the Csikos Apartment in Cluj-Napoca. They are located just outside of the town centre, which is a short walk away. Their apartments are rather spacious, thus fantastic for slow travel. The apartment can sleep four; however, it’s very comfortable for two.

They have a bathroom, a shower room and a kitchen. The only downside was the extra charge for the dog. This was overcomplicated and ended up costing £4 per night.
Aparthotel Cernei 11

Another way to find pet-friendly accommodation in Cluj is on the Airbnb website. This is where we found Apart-hotel Cernei 11, a small place in the suburbs. Apart-hotel Cernei 11 was a small place but had all the facilities needed for a comfortable, brief stay. The bed was a sofa bed, unfortunately. However, the bathroom and kitchen were well equipped. We used their self-check-in facility, which ran seamlessly.
Playground: A Pet-Friendly Place To Stay in the Centre

In the centre of Cluj, near to all the sights, is Playground, a pet-friendly apartment. This was a strange place to stay, set over 2 floors with a ladder; however, it was poorly thought out, and the top floor was difficult to reach. The apartment had a comfy bed, a functional kitchen, and a bathroom. It seemed the owner’s imagination had run wild and hadn’t considered the practical needs of guests. Overall, the location made up for the strangeness at Playground.
Maya Apartment: A Pet-Friendly Place To Stay in Cluj

Another tried-and-tested dog-friendly place to stay in Cluj-Napoca is Maya Apartment. Maya Apartment is slightly out of town but on public transport routes. The accommodation is nicely decorated and set up for long or short stays. Their bed is average-sized and comfy, the bathroom is good, and the kitchen is great. They also have a garden for guests to use. Overall, the Maya Apartment is a comfortable place to stay with pets.
Dog Kennels in Cluj-Napoca – Pet Joy
When we were parked up in Cluj-Napoca, we needed to head to the UK for Christmas. Thus, we researched dog kennels for Henry to stay at a puppy resort. After lots of research and deliberation, we opted for Pet Joy. It wasn’t the cheapest out of the options, but they seemed the best.

Anyway, Henry enjoyed his holiday at the kennels, made new friends, and kept in practice for social media poses. They update you regularly with pictures of your dog having fun. Overall, Pet Joy was a fantastic place for leaving a dog. They also do dog sitting for those who work in the city.
So, Is Cluj-Napoca Dog Friendly?

Of the cities we have visited in Romania so far, Cluj and Brașov are both joint top in our dog-friendly rankings. Cluj has some fantastic pet-friendly bars and restaurants. Finding accommodation with the dog was straightforward. The ancillary services associated with owning a dog were covered, including kennels, pet shops, groomers, and vets. As a bonus, Cluj-Napoca has some picturesque places to do walkies.
