Beer Gardens in Vienna: Schweizerhaus, Wiener Grill Haus & More
Beer gardens, aka biergartens, are fantastic places to hang out with friends and have a beer or food while in Vienna. Vienna has many options, including the famous Schweizerhaus and Wiener Grill Haus. I enjoyed a few beers at these and also relaxed on the terraces of bars throughout the city.

These are more of a summer thing, and during my latest visit to Vienna, it was prime time for beer gardens. Most of these were dog-friendly, and Henry enjoyed visiting some. We’ve also enjoyed many in various cities in Europe, including Munich.

These are the beer gardens where I enjoyed beer or food while visiting Vienna.
Schweizerhaus At Prater Amusement Park

A fantastic beer garden for a meal out or beers at Prater amusement park is Schweizerhaus. Schweizerhaus has a fantastic dog-friendly outdoor seating area and is rather vibrant with it. It’s a place with history dating back to the 19th century.

They serve fantastic beers and options for Viennese cuisine. We met one of Henry’s friends from Facebook while visiting and had an epic evening out. And met a variety of fascinating people.

The Budvar beer was flowing, and we enjoyed some delicious pork knuckle and bretzel. Their menu has a wonderful variety of Viennese cuisine and looks good. We stuck with Budvar for the night; however, they have a good beer menu, including draught and bottled beers.
Overall, Schweizerhaus is a great beer garden to visit for fun with friends or a drink on your own.
Wiener Grill Haus Near Schönbrunn Palace
A short walk from Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna is Wiener Grill Haus. Wiener Grill Haus is a lovely place with a shaded beer garden in the back. We visited for a special meal out after exploring the palace.

They have a good drinks menu, including Austrian beers such as Schladminger. I enjoyed a few of these throughout the meal, a pleasant option. They also did a variety of non-alcoholic drinks. This included elderflower lemonade, which I’m reliably informed was delicious.

Their food menu has some interesting options, including many Viennese dishes. For starters, we shared a gourmet meat plate with bread. This had some delicious cold meats, cheeses and salad garnishes.

For the main course, I enjoyed their Schönbrunner grilled pork knuckle, which came with roast potatoes, mustard and horseradish. This was delicious and filling and perfect beer garden food.
Overall, the beer garden at Wiener Grill Haus was an excellent place to enjoy a meal out in Vienna.
Zattl Wirtshaus & Biergarten

In Vienna city centre, near Schottenkirche, is Zattl Wirtshaus & Biergarten. They have an excellent location in the courtyard of an impressive building. It’s all rather green in the beer garden, and they also have fountains.

They have a variety of table sizes to sit and drink or enjoy a meal out. I enjoyed a few Pilsner Urquells here to cool down while exploring the sights of this part of Vienna. Their Biergarten is dog-friendly, and they have bowls of water to keep pets refreshed.

Zattl Wirtshaus & Biergarten also has an inside seating area for when the weather’s not so good. I was impressed when seeking out their bathroom. I didn’t eat out, but others looked to be enjoying it. Their food menu includes delights such as wiener schnitzel. Overall, Zattl Wirtshaus & Biergarten is a great place to enjoy some shade with a beer in the summer.
Steirerhof

A restaurant with a beer garden that we enjoyed visiting near our accommodation in Vienna was Steirerhof. Steirerhof Restaurant is near Prater and has both inside and outside dining areas. We enjoyed a meal out in their outside seating area.

They had options for Austrian beer, including Gösser, a rather refreshing drink. For food, I enjoyed their pork neck with dumplings and sauerkraut. This was hearty and delicious, especially the crispy bits. Their home is a lovely building with a nice garden to the front. Overall, the food was delicious, and the location was handy for us.
Rathauspark

Another sort of beer garden, but well worth a mention, is Rathauspark near the town hall. The park is a lovely place to hang out, and they have lots of bars and street food vendors. These sell a variety of nice beers and other drinks to enjoy in the gardens.

There are loads of seating options at Rathauspark, including some in the shade. Rathaus is a great place for events, home to a Christmas market, and the venue for the annual free-to-attend film festival. Overall, Rathauspark is a great place to enjoy beers in the garden while sightseeing in Vienna.
Biergart’l im Stadtpark
Another pleasant beer garden is Biergart’l im Stadtpark. This is a nice place to visit for a beer when sightseeing in Stadtpark. Stadtpark is a beautiful place with many pleasant features to see. This beer garden has splendid views and serves great beer. I enjoyed an Ottakringer beer on my visit. However, they had many other drink options.

They also have a food menu with some classic Viennese dishes to try. The beer garden operates from March to October. You can find their opening hours and menu on their website. Overall, a lovely place to visit in the park during the warmer months.
Brauhof Wien

For good food in a nice outdoor venue, Brauhof Wien near Westbahnhof is a top place. They have a nice beer garden to the rear that’s open on warmer days. I found the beer and food here excellent, including their Wiener Schnitzel and house beers.
