Bucharest Fountain Show at Piața Unirii: Dancing Fountains
A highlight of my visits to Bucharest in Romania is the Water Symphony, which is a light show involving the fountains in Piața Unirii. The Water Symphony is a fantastic event where you watch and listen as the fountains dance to music beamed across the epic town square.
Because of renovations in Piața Unirii, there is no show in 2026.
This is a free event which takes place in the evening on the weekends. The show lasts for 45 minutes and includes some pretty cool music for the fountains to dance to. For the show, they close the road which crosses the square at the big fountain, which makes it all pedestrianised.

On our visit, we arrived early and got a takeaway and a drink to enjoy in the square beforehand, which was nice. We watched the light show from the main square, then had a wander around to enjoy the views from near the centrepiece fountain on the roundabout.

They had a great selection of music, including some very recognisable tunes, including ‘I Want It All’ by Queen. They also had some Romanian pop tunes, which I’ve heard before at other events in the country. The Water Symphony was a great way to end a day of sightseeing in Bucharest.
Where Is Piata Unirii?

Piata Unirii is an enormous square in the centre of Bucharest, a short walk from the old town and the Palace of Parliament. It is a big hub for public transport with direct links to most of the city, including the terminus of the airport bus. Many of the underground lines also stop at Piața Unirii. The easiest way to navigate here is using Google Maps.
Is the Bucharest fountain show running in 2026?

The Water Symphony light show takes place in the evenings during the warmer months at varying times. In 2026, the show is taking a break because of renovations in the area.

Refreshments

After a walk through the main square, there were no stalls selling food or drink. Thus, we crossed the road to the edge of Piața Unirii to get a kebab. There were many options nearby, including bakeries and other fast-food outlets. There are also some nice places for beer or food outside on the southern edge of the square. This includes Trattoria L’Oroscopo and The Harp Irish Pub.
