Ancient Ram Inn Ghost Hunt in Wotton-under-Edge

The oldest building in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, is the Ancient Ram Inn, which was the site of our evening ghost hunt.

Ram Night

The main reason for this visit to Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire was to take part in a ghost hunt at the Ancient Ram Inn. We had watched a few investigations in the building on television, including on Ghost Adventures.

Booking Ghost Hunt

We booked via their website, which was pretty straightforward, and it was a new experience for us. There were plenty of date options; however, some sold out early. They also host themed events like voodoo doll-making and even hunts for children. We booked their New Year’s Eve special, which lasted 4-5 hours; they also offer overnight sessions.

The Ancient Ram Inn is the oldest house in Wotton-under-Edge and is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in the UK. The building dates back to roughly 1145; however, the current building was remodelled in the 16th century. It is also on the site of a pagan burial ground and on a ley line which connects with Stonehenge.

The Ghost Hunt

Ghost Hunting

Our ghost hunt started at 9 pm, where we met outside and then headed in for a briefing. There were quite a few other visitors, including experienced investigators and some sceptics. After the introductory talk, we split into groups to do vigils in various parts of the site.

Ghost Hunt

The ghost hunt involved vigils in various rooms of the building, using various methods and some pretty cool tools like the Ovilus, Ouija boards, and flashing cat balls. The text conversations with the Ovilus were fascinating; you talk, and you get words back on the display. The guides were nice and tried to get everyone involved throughout the night.

After the main vigils in the barn and upstairs, we could take some of the kit or sit in other rooms. I had seen the Bishop’s room and Witches Room on TV, so we headed straight up there to sit alone in the dark and spook ourselves. After a while, others joined us with some ghost-hunting toys.

Is the Ancient Ram Inn Worth Visiting?

We really enjoyed visiting and experiencing a proper ghost hunt and found it fascinating despite the scepticism. Inside was pretty spooky, and the ghost hunt was a great experience for us; we also met some very interesting people. I’d recommend this as an alternative to a night out. This is one of many spooky places we’ve visited in the UK.
