Tudor World Ghost Tour & Museum Review, Stratford-upon-Avon

During my holiday in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, I visited the Tudor World Museum twice. The first time was a regular visit to learn about Tudor history in Stratford-upon-Avon and the UK. The second time was at night to take part in one of their ghost tours.

Ghost Tour

The museum is a privately run tourist attraction in a timber-framed building in the town centre. They presented the artefacts nicely, and the museum tells a great story. This was one of my favourite things to do in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Ghost Tour

Although sceptical, I have an interest in the paranormal and haunted buildings, so the tour was an instant draw. I often watch shows with paranormal investigators, including Ghost Adventures and Portals to Hell. However, I had not been on an official ghost tour. This trip was the time to fix that.

Tudor World runs its ghost tours after the museum closes, with evening tours throughout the week and additional tours on Saturdays. This building is a perfect place for a spooky evening. The tour also ties into local history. This was educational, even for non-believers.

They deliver the tour as a live, lantern-lit guided tour, setting the scene and telling stories related to the room you’re in. The stories were fascinating and covered prominent topics.

A few strange things happened, but nothing major for me. Basically, the arm on a lamp kept moving for no reason. It was quite stiff to move but dropped randomly. If anything paranormal was happening, my King Charles Cavalier probably scared it off. He didn’t get spooked at all. He just sat or sniffed throughout. However, a few paranormal investigators have had some interesting experiences, including the televised visit of Most Haunted.

You can watch the episode from Stratford-upon-Avon on YouTube. It’s rather a good watch if you enjoy this genre of television.

Tudor World is a fascinating museum focused on Tudor-era history. It has many exhibitions inside its home in a Tudor building. The museum is open for daytime visits, where you can explore and learn about the era in an engaging way. There are many interesting sections, including general history, food, and some locally related features.

Tudor World Courtyard

This is a fascinating museum and very welcoming to pets during my visit. It is apparently the only fully Tudor museum in the UK. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in British history. They house the museum in a Grade II* 16th-century listed building, a splendid home for a Tudor museum.

The Tudors in Stratford

The timber-framed building and gates on the way in really set the tone. The museum also has a gift shop, a great place to buy Tudor-themed gifts.

There are lots of artefacts which highlight what life was like in the era. This includes living quarters and how they cooked. Another highlight was the torture and punishment exhibits.

Tudor World in Stratford-upon-Avon Review

Both tours were engaging, and the exhibits were high quality and well presented. Both museum tours told a story, taking you through it in a specific order. The staff here were friendly and knowledgeable, and a pleasure to chat with. It was a bonus that they were dog-friendly, making it very convenient for me. However, I would prefer to do ghost tours without the dog in the future, as you can’t fully immerse yourself. Since our visit, Tudor World doesn’t allow pets on the evening ghost tours.
