Restaurants in Pécs, Hungary: Places We Ate & Drank
Pécs has plenty of places to eat and drink, including traditional Hungarian restaurants, bars, cafes, beer gardens, market hall food, and budget lunch spots. We found meals good value overall, except for steaks, which were a bit more pricey.

Most eateries in Pécs are pet-friendly and allow dogs inside or on their outdoor seating. We found most bars and restaurants accepted cash and cards.
Bars & Restaurants in Pécs, Hungary
These are some of the best restaurants where we enjoyed dining out or having a drink while on holiday in Pécs.
Főtér Bistro & Bar

One of my favourite places to dine out was Főtér Bistro & Bar. They have an indoor dining area and outdoor seats with views of Széchenyi Square.

For drinks, they offered local wine and beer, including locally brewed Pécsi Sör. They are also a popular place for coffee drinkers, especially on a sunny morning. Their food menu was special, and we enjoyed a few meals out here. For starters, their charcuterie and cheese boards were perfect for sharing and included local cheeses and meats. These were substantial.

Their main courses were delicious too and very well presented. The pork loin with potato, cabbage and sour cream was tasty. Their pork tenderloin was perfectly cooked and served with unique baked potatoes and a lovely sauce. Other notable items were the beef stroganoff and duck breast.
Eozin Corso Cafe-Bar

Next to the theatre is Eozin Corso, a nice place to dine out. Eozin Corso is nicely decorated with a theatre-and-music theme. They have a selection of beers, including the local beer, Pécsi Sör. For food, they offer a diverse menu, including traditional Hungarian cuisine.

I enjoyed their beetroot and goat’s cheese soup, which was colourful and tasted good. For the main course, I enjoyed their beef tongue, which they served with a variety of dumplings and a sauce. This was filling and visually pleasing.
Fiáker Étterem for Traditional Hungarian Food
Fiáker Étterem is a restaurant for traditional Hungarian food, a short walk from the main sights in the centre. The restaurant has a pleasant dining room and various seating areas. They seem to get busy at lunch, possibly because of their good-value lunch menu. This set menu changes daily. This includes soup and a choice of three mains.

Fiáker Étterem also has a regular menu with many Hungarian favourites. On my visit, I chose a platter of meats, including stuffed pork, beef steak, and cheese-covered chicken. They served this with rice, fries and salad. For drinks, they had soft drinks and Borsodi, a Hungarian beer.
István Pince: A Traditional Restaurant in a Cellar
István Pince is a cellar restaurant and a pretty cheap place to dine out. The cellar was cool despite the heat outside. István Pince is very popular with the locals, and I needed Google Translate on my visit. They have a regular menu and a cheap daily menu, which includes a soup and the main course of the day.

For beer, I enjoyed the locally brewed Pécsi Sör, one of my favourite Hungarian beers. For the main course, I had pork with fries and a few eggs on top. It was tasty, and the portions were big for under 3000 HUF, including beers.
Bazaar

Bazar is a bar in the city centre’s main square. They offer indoor seating, a courtyard, and outdoor seating. Bazar has an interesting beer menu with an extensive range of craft beers, including some from Hungary. They also offer a daily food menu. On my visit, they had a special of fried chicken, and it was tasty.
Korhely Étterem

Korhely Étterem is a bar and restaurant on a side street near the theatre. It has an interesting atmosphere with traditional furniture and straw on the floor. Korhely Étterem also has its own pet, a gerbil in a tank, which is interesting to see. They have a great beer menu, including Pécsi Sör, the local tipple.

For food, they have a mouthwatering menu, including a meaty sharing board and desserts. If you are in for a drink, they also have peanuts in the shell for customers to enjoy while knocking back a few beers.
Cooltour Café

On Király Street in the city centre is Cooltour Café, an ideal place for drinks. It’s a quirky café with really colourful decor. The café has three floors and a garden, giving you several places to sit.

Cooltour Café also has a large beer garden, which is ideal for drinks outside in the warmer months. They have a variety of drinks, including Szalon Lager Beer made by the Pécs Brewery. On weekends, they are party central, and it gets lively.
Mama Lángos-Pecsenye in Pécs Market Hall

Mama Lángos-Pecsenye is a highly rated place for those who enjoy Lángos, a Hungarian speciality. It is in the market hall and a convenient place for lunch while shopping. Mama Lángos-Pecsenye also serves other dishes, including sausages and warm meats. The staff are friendly and happy to give recommendations.
Blöff Bisztró

Near the main square, on a side street, is Blöff Bisztró, a good place for a drink or food out. Blöff Bisztró has outdoor seating in the afternoon shade, so it’s a perfect place to avoid the sun and have a drink. Blöff Bisztró’s food focuses on fish and seafood with influences from the Balkans and the Mediterranean.
Szálkás Hokedli Neighbourhood Bar

Near our accommodation was Szálkás Hokedli, a neighbourhood bar that serves cheap beer and coffee. Szálkás Hokedli serves a variety of Hungarian beers on draught or in bottles. I enjoyed a few beers here and, on occasion, a coffee. As a bonus, they open early in Pécs.
Kioszk Bar Near Pécs Cathedral

Kioszk is a pleasant bar for drinks near the cathedral. Kioszk is in a park and surrounded by trees and pretty flowers. They have outdoor seating and provide table service. They have Hungarian beers, coffee and soft drinks. I really enjoyed sitting here between sightseeing in the city.
Local Beer in Pécs: Pécsi Sör

The local brewery makes Pécsi Sör, which we found in many bars around the city. I found it a good choice for an afternoon drink, and they also offer pale ale and wheat beer.
The history of the city’s beers can be traced back to the city’s Franciscan monastery, which began operations in 1301. The Pécs brewery has been running since the mid-19th century. If interested, you can register to visit the brewery each Saturday on its website.
