Self-Service Laundrettes in Bratislava – Where to do Laundry

As a long-term traveller, the laundrette is a frequent haunt of mine, including on our visit to Bratislava in Slovakia. We tend to visit the self-service laundrette weekly unless we have a washing machine in our apartment.

On researching laundry services in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, the lack of options surprised me. Basically, in the city centre there is one that is also a cafe. The rest on Google Maps seemed to be dry cleaners or non-existent.

Laundromat Cafe Slovakia

By default, there was one viable option in the centre of Bratislava. This was called the Laundromat Café – Staré Mesto.

Laundromat Café – Staré Mesto

The Laundromat Café – Staré Mesto is right in the city centre and easy to find. There are plenty of tram stops nearby. It’s a pleasant place to wait while washing; however, I find a nice quiet bar within a few minutes.

Best Laundrette Bratislava

How the Laundromat Café works differs from other places I’ve done the laundry. First, you find an empty machine and load it up. Then you find the powder under the table near the reception and add that. No payment is required initially, and you start the washer. They have three sizes: small, medium, and large. I opted for the small one, which was spacious.

This took 50 mins for the laundry to be cleaned, then on to the dryer. You then move clothes, select a time, and wait for them to dry. Once you are packed up, you head to the counter to pay. They somehow knew how much to charge. In my case, it was pretty cheap, 10.90 euros; I was expecting a 15-euro bill. They accept both cash and card payments and also have drinks for sale if you are waiting.

Laundrette Customers

Overall, the Laundromat Café – Staré Mesto was a great experience and well priced. It’s also a great place to bump into other travellers, their main client base, it seemed.

Flipperwash Launderette

If you don’t mind travelling away from the main part of the city, you can try Flipperwash. Flipperwash has a launderette about 30 minutes away by public transport or 1 hour 20 minutes walking. You can find out more on their website.
