Laundrettes in Slovenia – Ljubljana, Lake Bled & Celje

When backpacking or slow travelling in Slovenia, there are chores to do periodically, including doing the laundry at a local laundrette. There are many places for laundry in the big towns and cities in Slovenia, including self-service laundrettes.

My usual modus operandi when travelling is to use one of our backpacks as a laundry bag. When nearly full, this fills the regular-sized washing machine at the laundrette. While washing, I usually have a beer at the nearest bar and keep an eye on the entrance.

Details of self-service laundrettes that I’ve used while on my adventures in Slovenia.

Launderette in Lake Bled

Launderette Bled

When visiting Lake Bled in Slovenia, there are laundry options, including Pralnica Laundry Speed Queen. There is a lovely launderette on the hill near Bled town centre and St Martin’s Church. Pralnica Laundry Speed Queen was very efficient, and as a bonus, they had a massage chair as a treat after a few days of hiking in the area.

Bled Laundry

The laundrette has a few different-sized machines for washing and drying. To use these, you use the console to choose your wash cycle and pay, which is pretty straightforward. Payment was made in cash into a token machine, which accepted notes and coins. However, it only dispenses tokens, so avoid large notes. The instructions were pretty clear. On my visit, the place was empty, so no waiting around. There was a supermarket next door for a beer while I waited.

Laundry Celje

Another city where we needed to do some laundry was Celje. The nearest laundrette to our hotel in Celje was Speed Queen samopostrežna pralnica perlila. This is a cash-only place where you have to purchase tokens for a wash. Note the token machine is not a change machine, so only put in what you need on your visit. Come prepared with euro coins and small notes. The instructions inside were in good English and easy to follow.

The price includes washing powder and softener, which are automatically dispensed. They have folding tables and a variety of dryers. Speed Queen was quiet on my visit; thus, there was no waiting around for machines.

Launrdomat Beer

The waiting area was nice; however, I enjoyed a beer at Kactus, a bar with a view of the laundrette, on my visit. The machines worked perfectly, and I departed with clean, dry clothes to continue our adventure.

Speed Queen Laundrette in Ljubljana

The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, has various laundrettes to use, many of which are self-service. They have a Speed Queen just out of town near Tivoli Park, a short walk from the railway station. This operates like the other Speed Queen laundrettes that I’ve used. I visited the Speed Queen on my latest trip and found it pleasant. The process involved purchasing tokens using cash; each token is worth a euro.

For a small wash, they charge 5 tokens, or for a large 18 kg wash, it’s 8 tokens. For a drying cycle, it is 3 euros, and I needed to use 2 of these. They have a small waiting area for those waiting while washing. However, I opted to sit on the terrace at Kavarna Leonard, a bar overlooking the laundromat entrance. As a bonus, the beer at Kavarna Leonard was pretty cheap.
