Bus or Train To/From Henri Coanda Airport & Central Bucharest

Henri Coandă International Airport is the major airport in Bucharest, which I’ve visited many times. There are various ways to reach the airport depending on which part of Bucharest you are in or travelling to.

Bucharest Airport

I found it pretty straightforward getting to and from the airport on my trips. The bus is the best way if you are heading to central Bucharest for some sightseeing. If travelling onwards by rail in Romania, the train is the best method.

Bucharest Airport travel Methods

Here are ways to get to Henri Coanda Airport in Romania that I have tried and tested.

The Number 100 Bus To Central Bucharest

Airport Bus From Bucharest Centre

The number 100 bus is the airport bus, and it runs along a route serving both departures and arrivals. This bus has various stops, the last being Unirii Square in the heart of the city. The bus takes just over half an hour to complete the journey either way.

Tickets In Bucharest

The pay for tickets – you can simply tap on with a payment card at the yellow terminal on the bus. There are a few of these onboard, but it can be a struggle if the bus is rammed full. Alternatively, you can buy a ticket at the kiosk. There is a kiosk at Unirii Square if you are heading toward the airport or next to the exit at departures; this is near the front of where the bus parks.

You can find the current timetable for the 100 bus here. Current prices for trips can be found on the STB website.

Train To/From Bucharest North railway station

Airport Train

A recent addition is the new train that connects Bucharest North railway station with the airport. This is handy if you are arriving in the city by rail or travelling onwards by train. It takes about 25 minutes. It is a 24/7 service that leaves every 40 minutes. Google Maps is very accurate with times.

Ticket Office

To pay, you can either purchase tickets at the ticket office at the railway station or, like the buses, tap on with your card on board at the yellow terminals on board. Sometimes this can be rammed full, but that doesn’t stop the ticket inspectors squeezing through the crowds.

Ride Sharing/Taxi

Airport Taxis

If you wanted convenience, both Uber and Bolt cover the airport from all points in the city. With convenience comes expense. A test fare from the airport to the main railway station was quoted at 55 lei by Uber, which is about £10.
