Beaches in Split Croatia: Enjoy Some Seaside Fun

Split, in Croatia, has many beaches, and during our visit we spent time at many of them. Some are very popular, and others are a bit more remote, which involves a nice walk along the coast to reach them.

Bacvice Beach

Most of the beaches in Split are not sandy and are a mix of rocky or shaley ones. We found that those near the city centre have more bars and places to eat out nearby. We visited in the off-season, and the sea was cold but good for a quick dip or paddle. As well as beach fun, there are many other things to do in Split.

Beaches in Split, Croatia

Some of the beaches that we enjoyed while on holiday in Split, Croatia.

Plaža Kaštelet

Plaža Kaštelet Split

If walking the coast path on the peninsula, you will find Plaža Kaštelet. Plaža Kaštelet is a pleasant shale beach suitable for swimming. Make sure you take flip-flops or water shoes, as the shale is hard on the feet. This was one of the quieter beaches on our visit.

Ježinac Bay

Another pleasant place to relax in the city is Uvala Ježinac, a nice beach. The beach has some nice features, including an old cannon, a sundial and places to sit and enjoy the coast. We also saw some people fishing from the small cliffs on the coastal path here.

Bay Ježinac

The area seems popular with cats, and we bumped into loads, many of which were friendly. The beach here is shale; thus, rock shoes come in handy. I enjoyed a quick swim here, then warmed up on the beach pier.

Bačvice Beach

Bacvice Beach

On the coast path just past the port is Bačvice Beach, one of the few sandy beaches in Split. We enjoyed walking to Bačvice Beach and enjoyed a paddle in the sea. The water is pretty shallow here, so it’s great for beach fun. Near Bačvice Beach, there are several places for refreshments with water views.

Kasjuni Bay

Kasjuni Beach

Kasjuni Bay is lovely to see from above on the hike; however, the views from the beach are spectacular, including the cliffs above. The beach is mainly small rocks, thus not really great if one is barefoot.

Kasjuni Beach is one of the principal dog-friendly beaches in Split and is popular with dog owners. It’s also a great place for swimming, which many people were doing. We went for a paddle to cool down and had refreshments on the beach. During the peak season, there are bars here; however, for winter walks you need to bring your own drinks and snacks.

Beach Prva Voda

Beach Prva Voda

Beach Prva Voda is a nice place on the north of the Marjan peninsula, a short walk from the city centre. This one is shale and has some nice rugged scenery nearby. Also, there are many benches to sit and enjoy the view, especially when the sun goes down.

Plaža Treća voda

Plaža Treća voda

Also on the coast path of Marjan Forest is Plaža Treća voda. Plaža Treća voda offers many steps for enjoying the water and splendid views along the coastline. There are also options for places to sit, including picnic tables. There are also trees for shade, and it is quieter than the beaches with cafes. We really enjoyed sitting here and enjoying the sea views. If going in the water, I’d recommend rock shoes or flip-flops on the rocks. Also If hot, you might want to bring your own drinks.

Lučica Jadran Bay

A short walk from the city along the coast path is Lučica Jadran Bay. Lučica Jadran Bay has a marina, a nearby restaurant, and some small beaches for accessing the sea. These are quite shallow, and I recommend rock shoes here because it’s rough underfoot. As a bonus, they have a dog section towards the Jadran Marina. It’s an OK beach, but I prefer those further along the coastal path.

Kupalište Bene

Kupalište Bene Split

Towards the end of the Marjan Peninsula is Kupalište Bene, a nice place to hang out or go for a swim in the sea. There are loads of places to sit in the shade and various access points to the water. As a bonus, there are some changing facilities and a cafe with sea views.

Kupalište Bene

I really enjoyed walking here out of season and found it very relaxing with wonderful views of the coast. If you don’t fancy the long 50-minute walk here, there is a regular bus service from the city centre.

Lublinski porat

Lublinski porat

There is also a nice shaded beach in a small bay called Lublinski Porat. This is a shaded place and rather small. We really enjoyed finding this one while walking on the coast path. This was clean, with a few seating options to enjoy the bay.
