Basilica di Sant’Andrea delle Fratte in Rome & Bernini’s Angels
Between Piazza di Spagna and the Trevi Fountain in Rome is Basilica di Sant’Andrea delle Fratte, a lovely church to visit. This was one of many churches in Rome that I enjoyed visiting.

Considering the tourist foot traffic in this area of Rome, I found the church rather quiet. Thus, it is a great place to pray, reflect or cool down. I had a good mooch around and enjoyed the decor, including the Bernini angel statues.
Basilica di Sant’Andrea delle Fratte History

Basilica di Sant’Andrea delle Fratte is a 17th-century basilica with a single nave. There are also 2 angels painted by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. This is a titular church that they dedicated to Andrew the Apostle. They built it in the Baroque style, and it was completed in 1826.
Bernini’s Angels

The church is lovely inside. The major draw to the church is Bernini’s angels. These were originally on Saint Angelo Bridge. However, they were considered too valuable to be exposed to the elements and subsequently moved to this church. The two angels with instruments of the Passion were created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini between 1667 and 1670.
Art Inside

The artwork inside the church is also very pleasant to see, especially the walls behind the altar and the ceilings. Basilica di Sant’Andrea delle Fratte has three chapels on each side and two near the entrance. They were all wonderful to see.
Gardens

The church was unique, as it also had a garden with porticoes along the edges. This was a very tranquil spot, and I took advantage of the peace for a sit in the shade. You can access the gardens via a door on the right of the church.
Entry to the church is free: you can find it here.
