Columbia Men’s Redmond Waterproof Hiking Shoes Review
The Columbia Redmond hiking shoe is my current footwear while travelling, and it’s rather nice. I usually struggle to find size 13 walking shoes and boots in stock to try on. While in Rijeka, Croatia, the Columbia Men’s Redmond Hiking Shoe picked itself, as it was the only option in my size and I needed a replacement that day.

They were slightly tight above the toes, so I had to slightly stretch them before they were 100% perfect for my feet. Since buying them, I have hiked many trails in the mountains and visited many old town centres throughout Europe, and I have found them to be great.
Columbia Men’s Redmond Waterproof Hiking Shoes

They advertised the walking shoes with the following features.
- OMNIGRIP rubber outer layer with excellent grip.
- Front cap for good toe protection.
- Waterproof and breathable OUTDRY membrane.
- Techlite midsole for cushioning along the entire length of the foot.
Columbia created the Redmond for mountain walking in all weathers on challenging trails. For the regular hiker. The shoes are waterproof, and the breathable membrane keeps your feet dry. They say you will love the lightweight of these versatile shoes.
These come in various sizes from UK 6.5 up to UK size 16. Lucky for me, Decathlon had 13 in stock, as they don’t seem to supply this size any more. On the Columbia website, they have the full range of sizes to order.
Columbia Redmond Walking Shoes Review

A review of my experience with the Redmond walking shoes by Columbia. They are quite stylish, and I really like the design. Many other boots and shoes make my feet look odd, but these didn’t
Comfort
After some initial stretching, these fit perfectly and are comfortable for walking. They have proven to be nice to wear in cities and on the tops of mountains in Romania. Walking over rough terrain causes no pain in the soles, which is great.
Tip – To stretch these walking boots, I used the hairdryer method. Basically, you put 3 or 4 thick socks on and then put the shoes on. Then you heat gently with the hairdryer for a few minutes. Let them cool while wearing them, then remove. Repeat if necessary…
Do They Fit Wide Big Feet?
These are great for my big and wide feet. As mentioned, a tiny bit of stretching was required, but they feel great.
Durability

I usually get through a pair of walking shoes every 5 months, and these are in month 7 and still going strong. They have walked over 10 miles most days, including on the snowy and rocky hiking trails in the mountains.
Waterproof

I’ve walked in lots of rain and snow during this winter, and they have kept my socks dry despite being a bit wet on the outside. That’s a thumbs up from me that they live up to the billing.
Is The Grip Good

The Columba hiking shoes impressed me with the grip while hiking, and I had no notable slips. This includes some very steep scrambles up loose rocks in the Carpathian mountains and lots of dog walks on the ice. I feel very confident wearing these on all terrains I’ve tried.
Are They Good for Sightseeing in Cities?

I’ve worn the walking shoes while sightseeing in various cities in Europe. The longest day the shoes had so far was the epic 32km walk in London. They were comfortable for the duration and coped with city walking, including visiting the Tower of London.
Are They Good Value?
I paid slightly more for these shoes than normal out of necessity. They have performed better than many other walking shoes I’ve had over the years. Thus, they have been well worth the cost for me.
Would I Buy Again?

Yes, I certainly would purchase these again or another pair from the Columbia range of walking shoes and boots. That probably depends on what’s available in shops when they need replacing. Update: I purchased the same pair again, as I was so happy with these.
