Hofbräuhaus in Munich: German Beer in a Famous Beer Hall

Hofbräuhaus is a fantastic beer hall in Munich that serves excellent Bavarian beer and food. One of my bucket-list attractions in the city was to try the city’s special beers. Hofbräuhaus certainly fit the bill for me.

Hofbrauhaus

Hofbräuhaus München is a rather impressive beer hall to visit in terms of history, decor, and vibe. It is a 3-floor beer hall that dates back to the 16th century; they have been serving beer and food for centuries.

The venue is both a bar and a restaurant with indoor seating and a lovely beer garden. There was table service by some very attentive and strong bar staff dressed in traditional attire. The amount of drinks they carried was rather impressive.

Is it dog-friendly?

The beer hall is very dog-friendly, and they offered Henry water, and he received lots of fuss from staff and other guests. There were a few other people visiting with their dogs, too.

The décor

The interior of the venue is rather nice, with lots of wooden features and lovely paintings up high on the ceilings. Seating is mainly on wooden benches, which make the place rather sociable for larger groups.

Beer Garden

As it was a lovely sunny day with clear blue skies, we opted to sit in the beer garden or biergarten. With timing, we were lucky. 15 minutes after arriving, every chair outside was full. The garden was pretty and had a fun vibe, with many groups enjoying it. People here were rather friendly, and a few passed the time of day and said hello to the dog too.

Drinks

The drinks available were rather special and thoroughly enjoyable. The beers we tried included their Weissbier and the Oktoberfest special. The Weissbier was delicious and had great flavours.

It seemed appropriate to try the Oktoberfest special too, as it should have been in full swing. This was a rather special drink and very easy to get through. We were drinking this in litre glasses, as were many others.

Bavarian Food Menu

Their food menu was full of delightful traditional Bavarian food options. For food, we opted for the weisswurst, or white sausages. I ate the Weisswurst with sauerkraut and a tasty, sweet mustard. This was more delicious than expected and a great bar meal. It matched well with the special Oktoberfest beers that we enjoyed. For snacks, there were people walking around selling bretzel to have with your drinks. Note: For these, you need to pay with cash.

Bavarian Entertainment

Hofbräuhaus had a great vibe inside with a traditional Bavarian band knocking out some tunes. I could hear these tunes throughout the beer hall and in the garden. Periodically, groups in traditional Bavarian attire also started singing.

Overall, Hofbräuhaus in Munich had a great atmosphere and made us want to keep ordering beers. It also has encouraged me to revisit the city during Oktoberfest or one of its other beer festivals. There are also many other beer halls in the city to visit, making it a great beer destination. Germany is a dog-friendly country, and Hofbräuhaus reinforced that for me.
