Mali Losinj in Croatia is a lovely place to visit for a holiday with a dog. There are many dog-friendly places to stay and restaurants to dine out. For fun, there are dog-friendly beaches and plenty of beautiful places for dog walking.

There are over 200 days of sunshine per year in the town of Mali Losinj in Croatia. Thus, bar or restaurant terraces are usually open and welcoming of dogs. Other venues also allow dogs inside; those that don’t have clear “dogs unwelcome” signs.

Finding a dog-friendly place to stay was pretty straightforward with the pets-allowed filter on Booking.com. Holiday accommodation here is quite pricey; however, there are some cheaper options. We found some exclusive resort hotels, glamping sites and apartments suitable for staying with a pet. However, budget backpacking meant that we chose the cheapest option, a studio apartment called Guesthouse Palma.
Apartments Jovic a Great Place To Stay

One of our favourite dog-friendly places to stay in Mali Losinj is Apartments Jovic. Apartments Jovic is pretty centrally located, making it easy to reach the harbour and beaches. We spent 10 weeks here over multiple visits.
They have some lovely studios that are fully equipped for cooking. Apartments Jovic also has a shared barbecue in their garden, which is nice. They also have a balcony or a terrace to sit out and enjoy the pleasant weather. Their beds are comfy, and everything works. As a bonus, the host was lovely, which enhanced the stay.
Guest House Palma

Guesthouse Palma is a lovely budget place to stay, just a 15-minute walk from the harbour and the closest beach. Basically, it is a studio apartment with a double bed, bathroom, and a basic kitchen. The rooms have air conditioning, which is ideal for keeping the dog cool during the warmer parts of the day.

They charged no extra for Henry to stay and were fine with him being left home alone. The owner is a cat person; however, they seemed to like Henry. For extra space, they have a patio with tables, ideal for eating or getting the laptop out. Overall, staying at Guest House Palma was a great experience, enhanced by the lovely host.
Guest House Lara

Another place we stayed while on holiday was Guest House Lara. Guest House Lara is to the north of the town, near the main road to the mainland. There are a few things locally, like restaurants; however, it is essentially quiet.

Guest House Lara is dog-friendly and allows pets for an extra 5 euros per night. The rooms were pleasant and had balconies with sea views. Besides your bedroom and bathroom, they also had a shared kitchen and dining area on the front balcony.

We visited at the same time as another pet owner, which Henry enjoyed, having someone to communicate with. The area nearby was great for dog walking, especially early or late in the day. Overall, Guest House Lara in Mali Losinj is a good choice for a place to stay if you don’t mind walking to reach the main town centre.
Camping Village Poljana

A lovely dog-friendly place we discovered in Mali Losinj was at Camping Village Poljana to the north of the city. They are basically a campsite with a beach, a bar, and a restaurant, all of which are dog-friendly. The site has a “dog on leads only” rule, but it’s a great place to visit with pets.

We didn’t stay at the campsite; however, we visited their restaurant frequently for meals and drinks. They were completely welcoming to Henry, and he had the chance to meet many other dogs while visiting. Their restaurant always had bowls of water for canine guests, which were handy in the Croatian summer.
Overall, it was a great place to visit with the dog, and I can also imagine it is a great place to stay if visiting with pets.
Dog Friendly Bars & Restaurants in Mali Losinj
These are bars and restaurants we have visited with the dog that are either dog-friendly inside or pet-friendly on their terrace.
Buffet Porto

Near Plaža Sv. Martin and St. Martin’s Church is Buffet Porto, a lovely, dog-friendly seafood restaurant. Buffet Porto overlooks the small fishing harbour and bay. They have a lovely outdoor seating area, and they are very hospitable.
Buffet Trojka

A short walk from Čikat Bay is Buffet Trojka, a pleasant dog-friendly bar and restaurant. They have a fantastic menu, most of which is grilled on the barbecue. Special mention to their grilled squid and mixed grill, both of which are hearty and delicious. Buffet Trojka is dog-friendly inside and out. They even have their own dogs, 2 big sheepdogs, which are rather friendly. However, beware if your dog is not too fond of loose big dogs. Overall, Buffet Trojka is a great place to dine out with or without a pet, especially after a swim in Čikat Bay.
Toro Grill

On the main street in the town is Toro Grill, a good value place to have a drink. Toro Grill has a lovely outdoor terrace with plenty of shade, making it ideal for visiting with a dog to keep them cool. They are pretty dog-friendly and always bring a bowl of water over with the beers. Toro Grill sells a variety of drinks, including Croatian wines and beers. They also have a nice-looking food menu, including lots of grilled meats.
Konoba CORRADO
Another special pet-friendly restaurant is Konoba CORRADO. Konoba CORRADO is a rather posh eatery that specialises in seafood caught locally. They have a fantastic drinks menu including local beer and wines. For food, they do a variety of sharing platters to suit many budgets. They also do a fantastic, hearty squid and Swiss chard stew. Overall, Konoba CORRADO is a fantastic place to dine out with or with a dog.
Caffe Bar Zagazinjine

Near Plaža na kamenu beach is Caffe Bar Zagazinjine, a lovely bar for a coffee or beer after a swim. Their coffee and beer are good value and served at the table. Their seating area is also in the shade, thus ideal if you want to sit with the dog out of the sun. They have a few bowls of dog water for customers visiting with their pets. Caffe Bar Zagazinjine does not serve food; however, many customers grab a pastry from the bakery next door. Overall, Caffe Bar Zagazinjine is dog-friendly and a great place to grab a drink.
Bruschetta

To the north of Mali Losinj, on the main road to the mainland, is Bruschetta, a lovely restaurant. Bruschetta overlooks a small sailing harbour and has fantastic views of the sea. They were dog-friendly and were very welcoming to Henry when we dined out. Bruschetta Restaurant has a fantastic wine and beer menu, or you could opt for a coffee too.
They have a good value lunch menu each day. For food, we opted for deep-fried squid with fries and a grilled tuna steak. We enjoyed this with a Dalmatian salad and a few Croatian beers. Overall, Bruschetta was a great place to dine out with a dog, and the food was delicious.
Fast Food Piccolo Paradiso

Overlooking the harbour, Fast Food Piccolo Paradiso is another pet-friendly place for a drink or some food. This is one of my favourite places as their staff were super friendly. Pets are welcome to visit the outdoor seating area, and we did so many times. They serve a variety of Croatian beers and are happy to fill water bowls.
Dog Friendly Beaches, Walks and Activities in Mali Losinj
Many of the beaches in Mali Losinj are pet friendly, and a great place to meet other dogs.
Dog Beach – Sv. Martin

Sv. Martin is a lovely bay east of Mali Losinj, with a section of the coast dedicated to dogs. Henry is a water dodger but has a paddle in the shallow water unless he slips. The dog-friendly beach has steps down to the rocks in the water and is also a great place for humans to swim. It’s particularly pleasant early in the morning just after sunrise, and you have the bay to yourself. I would advise wearing flip-flops on the rocks here, as it can be tough underfoot.
Plaža Sv. Martin

Plaža Sv. Martin is a lovely bay with a few small pebble beaches and with options for dog-friendly areas. They have some lovely rocks and grass to sit on near the sea. You can access the water from the pebble beach or via a variety of steps into the Adriatic Sea.
Plaža na kamenu

Plaža na kamenu translates to “rock beach” and is on the east coast of the island, near the town centre. It is a great place to sit on the rocks and access the sea via steps that they have installed. The water gets deep quick here, thus is great for swimming of snorkelling. Some slopes are ideal for dogs to go for a paddle or enter the sea for a swim. The area nearby is fantastic for dog walking, especially early in the morning when it’s cooler and you might catch the sunrise. The beach gets busy in the afternoon, so it might not be suitable for dogs then, but early mornings and evenings are fantastic.
Pirate Boat Trip

We enjoyed an all-day boat trip along the coast of Losinj island with Pirat Excoursions. Pirat Excoursions is a dog-friendly boat and made Henry very welcome. They apparently often have canine passengers enjoying the trip.
The trip took us along the coast and onwards to the next island, Ilovik, initially for an explore. Ilovik was a beautiful place with small beaches and a few dog-friendly beaches to explore. Henry met lots of the local dogs while walking on the island.

We then headed to a secluded bay for some time in the water, including swimming in a cave. Henry is a water dodger, so opted not to join in the swimming. Overall, this boat trip was a great pet-friendly experience.
Čikat Dog Beach – Plaža za pse

In Cikat Bay on the east coast of the island is Čikat Dog Beach (Plaža za pse). This is a nice beach just off the coast path and is very dog-friendly. Many other dog owners use this beach because it’s easy for pets to enter the water. The views of the bay from the beach are splendid, and it’s a great place to relax. As a bonus, the walk to Čikat Dog Beach is through the forest, so it’s nice and shady on hot summer days.
