Sea Garden Varna, Bulgaria: Seafront Park, Views & History
The Sea Garden in Varna is a large seafront park between the city centre and the beaches. It’s one of the best places in Varna for a walk, sea views, dog walking, cafes, monuments and family-friendly attractions. We walked here several times a day during our stay, both with the dog and without him.

The park runs alongside Varna Beach and includes viewpoints, flower gardens, museums, Children’s Corner, the Pantheon, the Varna sign and several places to stop for coffee, beer or food. It’s also a useful route between the beach, the city centre and the port area. The Sea Garden is a fantastic place for dog walking, and it’s beautiful, too. You can also hire a Lime e-scooter to zoom around the park; it’s enormous, so you can cover ground quickly.

Many of the top landmarks in Varna are in the Sea Garden. This includes museums, aquariums, a funfair and monuments. You can also find many cafes and restaurants in the park. The Sea Garden has lots of trees for shade, and the flowerbeds are blooming.

The entrance to the Sea Garden has some nice-looking columns, and during our visit, some Easter decorations, including a big red egg. Overall, the gardens are a fantastic place for recreation and relaxation.
Exploring the Sea Garden in Varna
There are many pleasant features, monuments and fun things to do at the Sea Garden. This includes some fun options for families and children to enjoy. It is apparently the largest landscaped garden in the Balkans; that gives an indication of its size.
Varna Beach

Varna Beach is one of many beaches in the city, and it runs alongside parts of the Sea Garden. The beach is sandy and a pleasant place to spend time. There are many options for bars and restaurants at the top of the beach. You can see the beach from the southern edge of the park.
Walking Paths and Flower Gardens

The Sea Garden in Bulgaria is massive, so it has a variety of paths to enjoy a walk. You can do either long walks or short circular walks here. There are lots of places of interest to walk to in the park; thus, it never gets boring. They have loads of vibrant flowerbeds to see throughout.
The Central Entrance

The main entrance to the sea garden is well worth seeing. It is probably where most people enter when visiting, unless staying near one of the less popular entrances. There are Roman-style columns and other decorative features to see. You also have a Varna sign and, as per the rest of the gardens, lots of colourful flowers.
The Navy Museum

The Naval Museum is an interesting place to visit while in the city. You can find it at the southern edge of the gardens. They have lots of naval equipment on display. You can also learn the history of the Bulgarian navy inside. Just outside the museum is an interesting artefact, a former torpedo boat.
The Pantheon

Another popular spot for sightseeing in the Sea Garden is the Pantheon. It’s a massive statue on a hill in the park with flower-lined boulevards leading towards it. The walls of the Pantheon bear the engraved names of the fallen in the period 1923–1944. They completed the structure in 1969. It also has an ossuary below the main statue.
Varna Sign

A popular place for visitors is the Varna Sign in the Sea Garden. As with all these types of signs, they attract people and groups taking a photo for posterity. Henry, my dog, was no different and visited while on a dog walk.
Enjoy Sea Views

One of my favourite aspects of the park was the sea views. There are many places in the park where you can see the sea. You have lots of options for places to sit and enjoy the panoramic views. As the sun is coming up, it is a rather special time to find a bench and enjoy the sunrise.
Children’s Corner

Children’s Corner is a funfair with some other interesting activities. They mostly geared the funfair towards children, but the dodgems were fantastic fun for us.

They also have a boating lake, crazy golf and an adventure park with a treetop adventure activity. This area is popular, as there are so many options for things to do.
Monument to Yuri Gagarin & Astronaut Alley

In the Sea Garden near the Pantheon is a really cool statue, the Monument to Yuri Gagarin. He was the first man in space. It is a tradition for visiting astronauts/cosmonauts to plant a tree at “Astronaut Alley”. Yuri Gagarin planted the first in 1961. The silver fir he planted has, however, been replaced a few times. In Astronaut Alley, you can also see plaques of other astronauts who have visited the area.
Explore The Rock Garden – Alpineum

The Alpineum, or rock garden, is an alpine landscape in the park and lovely to see. There are a few on-theme statues to see, too. At the rock garden, there is a bridge that they say you get good luck from if you cross with your eyes closed.

A fantastic time to visit the rock garden is after dark when they light it all up. This is a nice place to head to when exploring the park. They created this feature in 1961, and its design was inspired by the unique rock formations at Pobiti Kamani nearby.
Panoramic Viewpoint

Overlooking the Black Sea, this panoramic viewpoint has lots of benches. This is a great place to watch the sunrise early in the morning or the sea at any time of the day. I enjoyed taking a cold beer and just having some quiet time here, which was recharging.
Find The Crooked Tree

Another nice feature to see in the park is the crooked tree. Lots of people gravitated here for a look or to have a climb. During spring, the nearby trees were in full bloom. They also light it up at night, and it’s a great place for beers anytime.
The Boating lake

A fun activity to do in the gardens is to visit the small boating lake. Here you can rent a boat and explore the lake. In spring, the boating lake has lovely blossoms nearby. A popular option here was renting a pedalo boat for four people.
Wishes Bridge

Another popular spot to visit in the park is the Wishes Bridge. It’s a nice bridge in a beautiful part of the gardens that apparently has magical powers. Apparently, if you walk across the bridge with your eyes closed and make a wish, it will come true. Anyway, it’s fun to watch people navigating the bridge with their eyes closed.
What’s The Sea Garden Like At Night?

We walked through the park most nights after dark and found it to be pleasant. There were many fewer people about but no sign of trouble. They have lighting on all the major paths, and some things are lit up nicely, including the alpine gardens, which are special at night.
