Places to Visit in the Czech Republic & Is It Worth Visiting?

There are lots of nice places to visit in the Czech Republic, including cities and beautiful countryside. The country has many well-preserved historic sites, including UNESCO-listed sites. Some of my favourite places to see have been the various castles and churches in the country.

Prague Castle Dog

Prague, its capital city, is the most popular place to visit in the country; however, there is lots to see beyond there. We found the Czech Republic fascinating, and the top attractions were pretty special. They also have some rather interesting museums and galleries throughout the country.

Places to visit in the Czech Republic

I’ve visited a few places in the country and am keen to explore more because I have enjoyed every place visited so far. The Czech Republic has impressive cities and smaller places to visit in the countryside.

Prague the Capital

Prague is a beautiful place to visit and one of the more beautiful cities out there. It is a fantastic destination for a city break or a fun weekend away. The city has a multitude of sights, including breathtaking tourist attractions. Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is a great place to visit with a dog. We found many dog-friendly bars and restaurants, and they were very hospitable. My preference was to dine out at traditional restaurants in Prague.

Prague Views

The castle is a beautiful place that overlooks the rest of the city. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site; thus, it is well worth spending time doing some sightseeing there. The Old Town Square is an iconic part of the city and a great place to sightsee.

Dog Powder Tower

The riverbank, Jewish Quarter, and Charles Bridge are also popular with visitors. Dog walking in the city is always a pleasure and a great opportunity to discover some lesser-known sights.

Český Krumlov

Český Krumlov is a beautiful town to visit and a great place to stay if travelling with a dog. It is an idyllic place to visit for a day trip or for a backpacking trip in Europe. Cesky Krumlov has an interesting history, which you can learn about in the town’s museums and at the castle.

Cesky Krumlov Castle is a great attraction for tourists, with the highlight being its tower overlooking the old town. They listed its town centre as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its well-preserved architecture. The river and surrounding countryside are also great for hiking or a dog walk. There are also riverside restaurants serving Czech cuisine, including river fish.

Brno: The 2nd City

Cathedral

The second biggest city in the Czech Republic, Brno, is a great place for a city break. Brno is in the South Moravia region, and we really enjoyed our week-long stay. During our visit, we saw many of Brno’s top attractions and enjoyed our experience.

Old Czech Platter

There are many nice bars and restaurants in Brno, including those serving traditional Czech cuisine. We enjoyed a few meals out and lots of local beers in between. My favourite meal out was the old Bohemian plate, which is a platter of meats and dumplings.

Dog Brno

Finding a place to stay in the city was straightforward. We stayed at a budget, dog-friendly hostel in the heart of the city.

České Budějovice, a City in South Bohemia

Ceske Budejovice Czech Republic

The city of České Budějovice is the largest in the South Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. It is also the home of Budvar beer, a fantastic drink for beer lovers. A highlight for me was the colourful architecture and the main city square. There were towers to climb, cathedrals to visit and lovely scenery along the riverbanks.

River Ceske Budejovice

It’s also a great place to dine out, especially in one of the many eateries in the main town square. The river is a great place for dog walking and sightseeing. There are a few boats on the river where you can dine out and enjoy the views. Overall, it’s a pleasant place to visit when touring the Czech Republic.

Is the Czech Republic dog-friendly?

The country is one of the more dog-friendly countries I have visited; thus, I have been there a few times. We had no problem finding pet-friendly places to stay during our visits. We stayed in a few dog-friendly backpacker hostels and pensions while in the country. Note that if staying with a pet, you usually have to book a private hostel room.

Dog Friendly Cesky Krumlov

Restaurants and bars more often than not were accommodating to travellers with dogs. Some even offer a fuss, a bowl of dog water and sometimes a treat for the dog. Prague was enjoyable to visit with the dog, and there were lots of options for us. Cesky Krumlov and Brno were the same, and we dined out at many places with Henry.

Czech Dog Walk

Travelling to the Czech Republic with a dog requires extra paperwork, depending on where you are arriving from. You either need an EU-issued pet passport, which is checked when entering the Schengen area. Non-EU residents need the “Animal Health Certificate”.

We have really enjoyed visiting the Czech Republic and found it a beautiful place. There are many well-preserved historic buildings to see and plenty to do. The beer and food out in bars and restaurants suited our tastes and were delicious. As a bonus, we found that everywhere we visited was pretty dog-friendly.

Why Visit Czech Republic

We enjoyed some longer stays and found adulting easy, including visiting laundrettes. To save some money, I have created a guide for free ATMs in the country. The Czech Republic is certainly a country we will revisit and explore further. Karlovy Vary and Ostrava are very much on our Czech bucket list.
