Arpenaz NH500 Hiking Shoes by Quechua Review
I walk a lot while travelling full-time; these are my thoughts on the Arpenaz NH500 hiking boot by Quechua. I struggle to find good walking shoes or boots in my size when travelling. Unfortunately, my last pair of shoes failed while in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, so game on; I had to go shoe shopping.

After a quick Google search, I found a few independent stores, but none in my size; thus, I headed to both Decathlon stores in the city to see what was on the shelf. Sadly, most didn’t have my size, UK size 12-13 or European size 46-47. Luckily, they had Arpenaz NH500 hiking shoes by Quechua that fit perfectly and were wide enough, unlike many others I had tried on.
Arpenaz NH500 hiking boot by Quechua from Decathlon
You can purchase the Arpenaz NH500 by Quechua from most Decathlon stores or on their website. In Bulgaria, these cost me 94.90 LEV, which is roughly £41. On the UK Decathlon website, these are £45. I’ve also spotted the same shoes in Decathlon in Croatia while visiting.
Decathlon is a good place to shop, and you can try shoes on at will. The staff was helpful when asked but didn’t pounce on you like other stores, which I prefer.

Review of Arpenaz NH500 hiking boot by Quechua
Are They Durable?
After the shoes fit perfectly, they have done some miles on various terrains. This includes the beaches of Varna, the cobblestones of Veliko Tarnovo, and the rocky hiking trails of Mali Losinj. Basically, they have walked 10-15 miles per day for over 6 months. After 6 months, the top canvas has a small hole, and the grip has worn down slightly. These lasted roughly a year of heavy use, and I was happy with that compared to other walking shoes I’ve had before.
Did They Fit Wide Big Feet?
The Arpenaz NH500 seems slightly wider than many other hiking boots and shoes I’ve tried on. Thus, it’s great for people with wider feet. I usually have to stretch walking footwear; however, I didn’t with these.
Are They Good For Rough Terrain?
The soles of the shoes are fantastic, and I rarely felt the cobbles when walking in the old towns of Europe. I usually do. This was the same while hiking on rocky trails, and it was very nice not to have sore soles after a trek. They were very good for hiking on the coast of Croatia, including some very challenging terrain in Mali Losinj.
Are They Stylish?
Comfort is king for me and wins over style every time. However, I liked the colours and the shape, but others may not. I had no issues wearing them in various social settings, including posh bars and restaurants.
Are They Waterproof?
Thankfully, when walking out in the rain, I never got wet feet except when I accidentally went knee-high into a puddle during a violent storm.
Is The Grip Good
They impressed me with the grip while hiking and had no notable slips. This includes some very steep scrambles up loose rock and the polished marble floors of the Croatian cities.
Are They Good Value?

For £40-£50, they are very good value and have lasted longer than other, more expensive walking footwear that I’ve used travelling.
Would I Buy Again?
I plan to purchase a spare pair when we next stay somewhere for more than a month. As my size was not available in Croatia, I replaced them with some Columbia hiking shoes.

I’ve been hiking with the Arpenaz NH500 Hiking Shoes by Quechua and they are a solid choice for anyone looking for comfortable and durable footwear on the trails!
