Beaches In Mali Losinj: Beach Fun On Losinj Island

Losinj Island in Croatia has many nice beaches, including those near Mali Losinj. Some are small and quite remote; others are more popular. We’ve enjoyed swimming and sitting at many of the beaches in the area.

Plaža Sv. Martin Mali Losinj

Some beaches are sandy or have gravel, and others are simply steps into the sea from the rocks on the coast. I really enjoy the remote areas with steps into the sea and often visit for a sunrise or sunset swim.

Swimming Valdarke Beach

As a bonus for us, there are a few dog-friendly beaches along the coast, and Henry has enjoyed a brief swim. The more popular ones are near bars or restaurants, which are ideal for refreshments before or after enjoying the sea.

Hang out at Plaža Sv. Martin

St Martin Dog Walk

A fun thing to do while on holiday on the island is to spend time in the sea at Plaža Sv. Martin. Plaža Sv. Martin is a lovely bay with a few places to access the water. They have some lovely rocks and grass to sit on near the sea. You can access the water from the pebble beach or via a variety of steps into the Adriatic Sea.

Sveti Martin Water Sports

Plaža Sv. Martin is fantastic for swimming, and once in the sea, it gets deep rather quickly. Many of the tourists hire or bring their own SUP paddleboards to enjoy the calm waters here. There are a few changing rooms, a public toilet, and outdoor showers for after enjoying time in the water. There is a small shack on the beach selling food and drink.

Plaža Sv. Martin Sunrise in Mali Losinj

Early in the morning, Plaža Sv. Martin is a fantastic place to enjoy the sunrise because it faces east towards the mainland. It’s also rather pleasant for an early morning swim in the sea, and you can have the place to yourself, except for a few dog walkers.

Fun or Relax at Čikat Bay

Čikat Bay in Mali Losinj, Croatia

Čikat Bay is a special place to visit on the east coast of the island. The bay is a fantastic place to enjoy a swim or do some watersports, including SUP or kayaking.

Croatia Beach Holidays

There are lots of options for beaches to sit on, including public and private hotel ones. There is also a sandy beach next to the Latino Bar. If you walk along the coast path here, you will find a spot to suit most tastes, including some areas with shade.

Čikat Beach

My preference is to sit on the pavilion near Plaža za pse. There are lots of steps to access the water at Plaža za pse, and the views are splendid. You can see the impressive villas from the Habsburg era, see the sea and, at sunset, it is very special.

Swimming at Dog Beach – Sv. Martin

Dog Beach (Sv. Martin) Swimming

Sv. Martin is a lovely bay to the east of the town and has a section of the coast dedicated to dogs. The beach has steps down to the rocks in the water and is a great place to swim. It’s particularly pleasant early in the morning, just after sunrise, and you have the bay to yourself. I would advise wearing flip-flops on the rocks here, as it can be tough underfoot.

Visit Valdarke Beach

Valdarke Bay Croatia

If you like quieter places, then Valdarke Beach in Valdarke Bay is a fantastic place to visit. The bay is very beautiful and has some remote spots for swimming. It is a 20-25 minute walk from the town.

Valdarke Bay Beach

It has lots of pine trees at the edges, thus providing you with shade on a hot sunny day. They also have a play area for children. Valdarke Beach is pleasant for swimming; however, I recommend flip-flops for walking on the pebbles. The bay is lovely to walk around; however, heading west, walking can be tricky.

Uvala Blatina: Sandy Beach in Cikat Bay

Uvala Blatina Sandy Beach

If you like sandy beaches, then Uvala Blatina in Cikat Bay is possibly the best option for you in Mali Losinj. The entire area is beautiful and has lots going on. It can get busy during the summer, as it’s great for seaside activities.

Uvala Slatina

There are lots of options for things to do, including boat hire, SUP or kayaking. You can also hire a sunbed and just relax and enjoy the views. There are also places for refreshments and bars nearby.

Beach Male In Valdarke Bay

beach Male Valdarke swimming

A smaller place for fun in the water in Valdarke Bay is Beach Male. This requires walking along the coast from the popular part of the bay or along the rugged coast from St Martin.

beach Male Valdarke Croatia

I’ve enjoyed this place many times on my visits to the island. The water is good for a swim, but rock shoes are needed to get out into the deep water.

beach Male Valdarke boats

There are lots of rocks to sit on here, especially along the coast path, where it’s very tranquil. As a bonus, the views from here are splendid. Quite a few people also enjoy paddleboarding here. If you want to change after, there are changing facilities at Valdarke Bay.

Uvala Zagazinjine

Uvala Zagazinjine Coast Path

My happy place and the most convenient place to enjoy the Adriatic Sea is Uvala Zagazinjine. Uvala Zagazinjine is a rocky part of the Losinj Island coastline with various swimming pool-type steps into the sea.

Uvala Zagazinjine

There is a changing facility here to change into swimwear in a discreet manner. I usually bring a beer and a Croatian pastry here to sit and chill before heading into the water.

Plaža na kamenu Steps

The water here is clear and a pleasure to swim in. The steps put you deep enough to swim straight away. I usually find the bay is calm and great for a longer session and to cover some ground.

Choppy seas

I also enjoy visiting here when the water is not so calm during or after a storm. The waves crashing on the rocks are hypnotic. Another good time to visit is for the sun coming up and to enjoy the colourful skies while the local fishermen bring in their nets on the horizon.

Pan Beers

A good thing about Uvala Zagazinjine is that it is close to a cafe, a bakery and a few restaurants.

Valdarke Plaža za pse

In the corner of Valdarke Bay, there is another dog beach, which is rather pleasant for dogs. Henry has enjoyed a paddle here a few times, retrieving seaweed sticks. To access it, there are steps down, and it’s a nice place to sit while he paddles.

Zlatna uvala – Golden Bay Beach

Zlatna uvala - Golden Bay

Another place I enjoyed while hiking on the island is Zlatna uvala, aka Golden Bay Beach. This one is out of the way and quite a walk from Mali Losink and Cikat Bay. There were a few others here enjoying the sheltered bay.

Zlatna uvala - Golden Bay Beach

There were many places to sit and enjoy the views, and the water was pretty easy to access. Note, there were no places for refreshments nearby, so you need to be prepared to spend time here.

Beach Veli Žal

beach Veli Žal Coast Path

If you like busier beaches, then Veli Žal is a good option. It is in the next bay to the Cikat park. I enjoyed a walk here, but it looked far too busy for my tastes. The rest of the coast between the two bays is pretty chilled, though, with access points to the sea.

beach Veli Žal

It has swimming areas, sun loungers, lifeguards and fun things going on. There are also places for food and the massive Hotel Aurora here, too.

Luka Rovenska

Rivenska Beach

If you don’t mind a long walk, Luka Rovenska is a lovely place for a swim. The beach is shale and has facilities including a changing area, a shower and a bar. Luka Rovenska is a shale beach, and there are places to access the sea from the epic breakwater. The views from the coast path to the colourful village are well worth visiting the area.

Cikat Dog Beach – Plaža za pse

Čikat Dog Beach - Plaža za pse

In the bay, on the east coast of Lošinj Island, is Cikat Dog Beach, aka Plaža za pse. This is a nice shale beach just off the coast path and is dog-friendly. Many people use this small beach, which is easy to enter the water. The views of the sea from the beach are splendid, and it’s a wonderful place to relax. As a bonus, the walk to Plaža za pse is through the forest; thus, it’s nice and shady on hot days.
