Franziskanerkirche Hl. Hieronymus & The Oldest Organ In Vienna

A short walk from Stephansplatz in Vienna is Franziskanerkirche Hl. Hieronymus, a Franciscan church. This is a nice Catholic church that caught my eye while having a drink next to the Moses Fountain. They built the church in 1603 and consecrated it in 1611. The church has an interesting combination of styles.

They built the outside using the Renaissance style, and inside the style is baroque. The fascia of the church is eye-catching and has some cool shapes and small statues. The grey and white stone certainly stand out, especially the gable at the top.

The baroque interior is pretty special when visiting inside the church, which was free. It reminded me of some of the wonderful churches in Rome that I visited the year before. There were decorative details everywhere.

High Altar

The high altar of the church is nice to see and, as usual, the focal point. This depicts the Virgin Mary, and Andrea Pozzo designed it in 1707. There are loads of features to see on the high altar.

The Oldest Organ in Vienna

An interesting aspect of the Franciscan Church is that it is home to the oldest organ in Vienna. It is a carved Baroque organ that was designed by Johann Wockel in 1642. Overall, the Franciscan Church is worth visiting, and it’s rather quiet, so it’s good for a relax. I’m glad I visited the inside while sightseeing in Vienna.
