Šibenik City Markets: Fish Stalls and Farmer’s Market

Šibenik is a big city with a local market to match; I enjoyed shopping here during my stay. We were self-catering, so we put City Market to good use, including buying fish, meat, and vegetables.

I also enjoyed the local olive oil and the bars at the edge of the market square. My favourite place for a drink while deciding what to buy was Caffe Bar Piazza, which overlooks the main square.

Ribola Supermarket

To supplement market food, the city has a range of supermarkets, including Konzum, Tommy Market, Ribola, and Studenak.

Where Are the Markets in Šibenik?

Market Bar

You can find the markets just outside the city centre, about a 10-minute walk from the main seafront.

The markets are open daily from 6 am until 2 pm except on Sunday, when they close at 11 am. The fish market closes earlier at 12 pm. Directions…

Stalls and Produce Available

Ribarnica/Fish Market

The fish market is part of the larger market site, so you can buy all sorts of local ingredients when shopping. The fish market is indoors, with lots of stalls, including those for big fish and smaller options.

We enjoyed cooking squid, sardines and tuna from here, all of which were great. A special mention to the sardines, as they were very good value.

Big Fish

Other options available include octopus, sea bass and shellfish. I found the markets had more fish options earlier in the day, from 8 am when all the stalls were in full swing.

Note: some stalls accepted cards, and others were cash only.

Fruit and Vegetables in City Market

Market Veg

The main square had loads of stalls selling fruit and vegetables. Most of these seemed to be local farmers selling seasonal produce. We enjoyed salad, potatoes and Swiss chard from the market. Most stalls were cash only, and everything was charged by the kilo.

Meats and Cheese

At the edge of the market square were butcher shops which sold a variety of meats. Pork and chicken featured predominantly in these. I purchased some truffle sausages for a meal one evening, which had a very strong flavour.

If you want to skip cooking, there is a van in the market selling rotisserie meats, including chicken. We also found some good cheese stalls which supplied my favourite, Pag cheese, so I purchased some.

Olive Oil

My first mission when in Croatian markets is to find a stall selling home-produced olive oils in small bottles. One lady sold olive oil at the rear of the fish market. This was enough for our stay and tasted good with salads and was good for cooking fish.

Bakeries

Flowers and Bakery

There are a few bakeries here too, which are handy for breakfast bread. My Croatian favourite, Mlnar, was also at the edge, so I enjoyed their sandwiches and burek during my stay.
