Free ATM Withdrawals in Hungary: ATMs in Budapest & Beyond
My guide to which banks to use for free ATM withdrawals in Hungary, including in the capital, Budapest, Pecs, Sopron, Gyor, and Lake Balaton. I have used many ATMs throughout Hungary with my Revolut card and found that UniCredit and MBH are the best for me. I don’t like wasting money and fees; getting cash can be better spent on the Hungarian beer kitty.
Travel Tips
- Sometimes it costs more to reach a free ATM; thus, it’s a false economy to seek them out.
- If you end up with loads of coins towards the end of your visit, InterSpar supermarket self-service checkout is a convenient way to lighten your pockets.
Is Cash Important in Hungary

Cash is still somewhat important in Hungary, especially when you head beyond the tourist hotspots where cards are widely accepted. Many of the backstreet bars I like to visit are cash-only. Another thing that happens periodically is the payment machines breaking. I usually tip in cash too, as I guarantee that goes to my server and not the business.
Free ATMs in Hungary & Budapest
Some banks that I’ve tried and tested for free cash withdrawals while exploring the country.
OTP

A bank I’ve often used to withdraw cash is OTP, which seems quite prevalent. I’ve used their ATMs in Budapest, Višegrad, Keszthely and Gyor, all with no fees. They have a handy page on their website to help you find the nearest branch. As a bonus, some of their ATMs also have euro machines, which, after testing, I found they didn’t charge for either.
MBH

Another popular bank that doesn’t charge Revolut customers to withdraw funds is MBH. I’ve used this various times throughout Hungary, including on my recent visit to Budapest. You can use their branch finder page on their website.
K&H Bank

Another place where I could withdraw cash without fees was K&H Bank. I first tried this bank in Sopron, in the west of the country, and then checked again in Keszthely, near Lake Balaton. They have branches throughout Hungary, including in the capital. K&H Bank has a handy page to help you find the nearest ATM.

When I was there I also used one app super often: ATM Fee Saver. The app shows ATMs with no or low fees for withdrawing money. Super simple and great for saving money while being abroad!
