Places to see Sunrise & Sunset in Prague: The Best Spots
Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is a stunning city at any time of day. This includes during sunrise and sunset. The beautiful architecture of Prague and the red skies are a fantastic combination. There are many places to watch the sunrise or sunset in the city, including near some of the iconic sights.
What Time is Sunrise & Sunset in Prague

The best way to check sunrise and sunset times in Prague or the Czech Republic is to ask Google or check your smartphone’s weather app. Identifying a great day to see the low sun is trickier. Clear skies or those marked with partial cloud cover often deliver the best results. Wispy clouds toward the end of the day can create a great sunset.

I find being out and about at these times sometimes gives you an epic surprise. As a side note, sightseeing in Prague is fantastic in the morning before any crowds arrive.
Places To Watch Sunrise or Sunset in Prague
Some photographs of the nice sunrises and sunsets that I got to watch during my visits to Prague.
Wenceslas Square Sunrise

The trams in Wenceslas Square in Prague make a great backdrop for the early-morning sunrise. Wenceslas Square faces in the perfect direction to observe the morning sun.

The buildings at the top of the square look stunning in the early sun of the golden hour. As a bonus, there are lots of benches to sit on and enjoy the views.
Národní Museum Sunrise

The Národní Muzeum at the top end of Wenceslas Square is a fantastic building to see at sunrise. The building dates to 1891, and its neo-Renaissance architecture and the early sun make for a great blend.
Charles Bridge for Both

One of the most spectacular spots to see both sunrise and sunset is on the Charles Bridge in Prague. At sunset, the view of the Lesser Town Tower is wonderful. The bridge is stunning; however, it can get busy during the day, so an early-morning sunrise visit is especially special.

Some mornings it gets misty, so there is no sunrise; however, the eerie vibe is fantastic. When the light is right, the early-morning view of the Old Town Tower is splendid.
Prague Castle At Sunset

Prague Castle is also a lovely spot to watch the city’s red skies. The architecture combined with the sun really enhances the view.

As the heat of the day is dissipating, the golden hour is a great time for a dog walk here.
Hradčanská Sunset

The overground train tracks near Hradčanská metro station are a fantastic spot for sunsets. There is a path across the lines which has views towards the low sun.
River Vltava at Sunset

The River Vltava is another fantastic place to watch the late sun. Archers Island on the river is a fantastic spot to chill out and watch the sunset. The castle on the horizon certainly adds to the view.
Old Town Square Sunrise

Old Town Square in Prague is special at any time of day. However, at sunrise it is quiet, empty, and great for photographs. The sunrise colours also add to the vibe.
Church of St Salvator at Sunrise

The Church of St Salvator between the Charles Bridge and Old Town is pretty at sunrise. In the early morning sun, it may be the only time you will see this area this empty. It’s also a great time to photograph the church and nearby buildings.
The Powder Tower At Sunrise

The early morning sun does special things to the buildings of Old Town Prague. It’s a special time to see what the area has to offer, including epic buildings like the Powder Tower.
State Opera Sunrise

Another pleasant spot to see the colours of sunrise is the view from the State Opera building. The building is near the railway station and pretty. It dates from the late 19th century, and it was built in the Neo-Renaissance style.
On The Train

One of the best places to see the sunset anywhere is on the train if you time it right. The trick is to work out which side of the train to sit on. The journey into Prague is fantastic, and I found sitting on the left, facing forward, was the best. Sunset colours on our journey into Prague were fantastic. As usual, the train windows can cause some dodgy photos and generally need a clean.
National Theatre Sunrise

The National Theatre in Prague is a stunning building to see just off the banks of the River Vltava. It also looks fantastic when enjoying a sunrise walk.

What a super list of spots. After spending nearly a month there in March to April we adored the place and enjoyed more than a few of the regions in town you shared. We had brilliant sunrises daily on the river and sunsets peaked through the city buildings here and there. Prague is gorgeous; one of the prettiest cities in the world.
